Furniture Move Checklist

Decide whether existing furniture can leave the old home, travel safely and enter the new one.

Measure the furniture

Measure the rigid frame at its widest, highest and deepest points.Record diagonal and corner-to-corner measurements where useful.Identify removable legs, backs, cushions, shelves and sectional pieces.Photograph the item before disassembly.Label hardware and pieces for reassembly.

Old-home exit

Measure every exit-route checkpoint.Check whether the item originally arrived through a different door or window.Confirm enough space to pivot on stairs and landings.Plan safe lifting and adequate helpers.

New-home entry

Measure the new route independently; do not assume it matches the old home.Check front, side, patio and service entrances.Measure door clear openings with doors fully open.Check hallways, turns, stairs, lift/elevator and final room entrance.Mark the furniture footprint in the room.

Decision

Compare moving cost and effort with the item’s condition and replacement value.Confirm movers’ policies for items that do not fit.Arrange sale, donation or responsible disposal before moving day if needed.Do not load an item unless there is a credible entry plan.
