Measure the window as it operates
Open the window to the required installation position. Measure clear width at the narrowest point and record opening height, sill depth, sash thickness, frame lips, locks, screens and storm-window tracks.
Check whether the sash moves vertically, horizontally or outward. A unit designed for one window type may not suit another even when the raw opening seems large enough.
Separate the important dimensions
Record cabinet width, cabinet height, full depth, the stated window-opening range and the installed width with side panels. Do not assume carton dimensions describe the product body.
Outdoor projection and support can control the installation. Indoor controls or louvers can also add shape that a simple rectangular table misses.
Check immediately after delivery

Check more than the rectangular opening
A cabinet may pass through the opening but still conflict with a deep sill, exterior screen, window handle, security stop or interior trim. The sash must be able to close to the position required by the installation system. Side panels, brackets and weather seals also need usable surfaces.
