Measure the route to the outdoor space
Balcony and patio furniture may need to pass through an apartment door, sliding-door opening, lift/elevator, corridor or narrow side gate. Measure the clear opening with screens, handles and tracks included. A nominal sliding-door size can greatly overstate the usable gap because one panel remains fixed.
For an upper-floor balcony, confirm building delivery rules and never plan to lift furniture over a railing without authorized professionals and an approved method. Railings and guards are safety features, not delivery equipment.
Plan the outdoor footprint in use
Measure chairs pulled away from the table, reclining positions, umbrella bases, storage-box lids and barbecue clearance requirements from the applicable instructions.
